Introducing chat at Kry

Kry is a healthcare company in Sweden that offers medical services through video calls with doctors. However, research suggested that there was a problem with getting quick clarifications or discussing new developments in one's treatment plan. There was a clear demand to be able to chat with doctors before, during, and after a digital consultation.
I joined the messaging task force responsible for introducing chat in various parts of the Kry product. The first project was to allow patients to reply to messages in their Inbox. The second project aimed at providing patients with the option to chat instead of having a video consultation. By reusing and updating some components, and designing new parts of the messaging UI, such as photo uploads, a sophisticated chat interface was created for online consultations.
By the time I left Kry in the summer of 2022, chat had become the preferred method of communication with clinicians, with 55% of patients opting for chat over video calls.
