Discovering Historic Trails in Philadelphia

Sarah Azpeitia
The Faith and Liberty Discovery Center is located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Independence Square and is the first of its kind filled with state-of-the-art installations designed by Rockwell Group. The Faith and Liberty Trail App was commissioned as a complementary experience to unfold the historic events and people involved in a journey of liberty and justice.
The SuperFriendly team had the paramount task to build something that would help visitors experience history throughout Philadelphia first-hand all while doing justice to the narratives and historic figures presented in the exhibition.
Sarah helped create an architecture and visual language that would support the discovery of these stories, all while helping users make sense of relevant historic context and explore real-life locations in a linear narrative. In tandem with a small but talented team, trails and stories were carefully selected with the support of the museum’s curator. The final product encouraged a heads-up experience all while providing valuable information, geofencing tied notifications, AR wayfinding guidance, and the occasional easter egg.
